Luke 8:41-48

41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.

45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”

When all denied it, Peter and those with hima]”>[a] said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’b]”>[b]

46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.

48 And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer;c]”>[c] your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

Teaching Points:

WENT (vs. 42) Jesus was out amongst the crowds! We have to be as well if we’re going to encounter people who need Jesus.

COULD NOT BE HEALED (vs. 43) She had tried before; she was desperate.

IMMEDIATELY (vs. 44) God’s power in it’s purest form – as it was in Jesus – heals immediately and without need for command.
PERSISTENT ( vs. 45-46) Jesus was persistent. He wanted to know who had touched Him. He wanted to loo her in the eyes and speak life to her. The physical healing wasn’t enough.
TREMBLING (vs 47) She feared Jesus. She didn’t know Him. Many on the streets don’t have a true perspective of God, and this results in fear or anger. Perhaps this is exactly why Jesus was so persistent in finding her.
FAITH (vs 48) Though she feared Jesus, she had heard of His power to heal, and she dared to believe.
GO IN PEACE (vs 49) Jesus was at least equally as concerned about the woman’s heart as her physical healing. He sought her out because He knew she needed affirmation and peace.
