Matthew 18:1-5

About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”

Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalfa]”>[a] is welcoming me.

Matthew 19:13-15

13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”15 And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.

Teaching Points:

Teaching Points:

Like little children (v. 3)- Jesus uses a child to illustrate the Kingdom of Heaven.

Humble (v. 4)- We can all get a humility lesson from children.

Scolded (v. 13)- The disciples didn’t want Jesus to be bothered with the children.

He laid his hands on their heads (v. 15)- Laying of the hands symbolized a calling or commission to do what God is calling that person to do. Jesus was literally commissioning these children to go out and carry on God’s work through the Great Commission in Matthew 28.
